Good sunglasses do more than look great. Over the years, UV exposure can contribute to eye problems, and bright glare is tiring on long drives. Here's what to look for.
1. UV protection comes first
Look for UV400 or '100% UV protection'. Darkness and UV protection are not the same thing — a dark lens without UV protection can actually let more UV in, because your pupils open wider behind it.
2. Polarised for glare
Polarised lenses cut reflected glare from roads, water and car bonnets. They're excellent for driving and outdoor activities.
3. Pick a tint for your day
- Grey: true colours, good all-rounder
- Brown/amber: boosts contrast, great for driving
- Green: balanced contrast and colour
- Mirrored: extra glare reduction in very bright light
4. Coverage and fit
Larger or wraparound frames block more light from the sides. The frame should sit comfortably without slipping when you look down.
